FORCES WARNING ON MOTOR INSURANCE...  <back

With television commercials beaming out insurance adverts every five minutes you might think that everyone is now buying their cover from the comparison sites – so called ‘Aggregators’.

Although civilians might find these a suitable way of buying cover Service personnel may find themselves without valuable cover, warns Keith Frampton of TF Insurance Services the specialist insurance broker working with HM Forces.

“The reason the comparison sites offer cheap cover is due to the fact the Insurers providing the cover have stripped their offerings down to very basic cover” Keith explained. “For any motorist to discover that there is no courtesy car following an accident, no legal expenses cover and a whopping £500 excess it can be alarming but for Forces personnel the problem may be even more significant”.

Dangerous exclusions…
Some insurers exclude cover whilst you are on a military base and the vast majority exclude cover if you are deemed to be ‘airside’ even if your duties need you to in order to get to and from work.

However, there is a better way. The Forces Insurance policy underwritten by Groupama Insurance and available from TF Insurance was especially designed for HM Forces and covers personnel throughout mainland Europe without the need for cover to be cancelled and re-arranged on postings.

Unrivalled benefits…
Not only does the policy provide the cover so sadly missing from the comparison sites it also provides many extra features like automatic free Business cover (ideal for JPA claims) and Laid Up cover which will allow motorists to maintain valuable cover on their vehicles if they are taken off the road following (say) a deployment thus allowing a significant reduction on the premium payable.

Another feature that may be of special interest to Service families is that if you are a 2-car family any No Claims Discount earned on your first car can be used again on the second vehicle and (if you desire) transferred to the spouse.

Special premiums for Northern Ireland

The Forces Insurance scheme has now been extended to cover Northern Ireland and offers all the benefits mentioned above.

It is recognised that many Service personnel and their families feel they are part of a forgotten army in Northern Ireland and the service provided by TFI offers a secure environment to purchase cover from a firm dealing exclusively with military customers.

In addition, the premium has been especially negotiated and can be up to 40% less than premiums quoted elsewhere.
